About Me

Back in the bookselling days

Once upon a time a bright eyed and bushy tailed young Theology and Medieval History graduate left university thinking she could spend the rest of her life doing what she loved- working with books. However, after 4 years of working in bookselling she realised she was utterly skint, living in a dive with no chance of progression before 45 and utterly disillusioned with retail. So she tried to become a librarian, but found that everywhere she went her lack of 'relevant' qualifications meant she was laughed at, even for the most basic of entry level positions. Faced with the prospect of going back to university and spending a small fortune on those 'relevant' qualifications or throwing in the towel and earning some decent pay by becoming a teacher, she took the path that did not lead to financial ruin. Now she lives in Lancaster in North West England with a long suffering fella who is always willing to erect yet more Ikea bookcases, two very stupid cats, and slightly over 1000 books. Oh, and she teaches Religious Studies to the unwashed masses.

I believe that cats are our future

About This Blog
I intend my posts to mostly consist of book reviews. These will probably be either of the books I'm reading in my long, long, long quest to read all of the '1001 Books to Read Before you Die'  (2006 list) and also those chosen by my 'Reading Between the Wines' reading group. I like it best when the two overlap, it makes my life much easier!

However I'm not promising that the occasional picture of my adorable (but retarded) cats won't sneak their way onto this blog. After all, they are HELLA CUTE. See, look...

See, we are cute!
